Senators Ron Wyden, Gordon Smith to Host Oregon Business Plan Summit
U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith have announced that they will convene a state summit meeting in December to hear the recommendations of the Oregon Business Plan. State legislators and other Oregon civic and business leaders will be invited. The Oregon Business Plan steering committee has already met with gubernatorial candidates Ted Kulongoski and Kevin Mannix to brief them on the business plan process. Both have agreed to host the summit with the Senators if elected. In addition, Secretary of State Bill Bradbury and State Treasurer Randall Edwards have endorsed this effort, and a number of state legislative leaders have said they are eager to see the recommendations of the business plan as they prepare for the 2003 session. Plans Shaping Up for Focus Groups, Meetings on Regional Economies The Oregon Business Coalition has been holding industry focus groups throughout the state this summer. In addition, we are working with business and community leaders in rural regions of Oregon to review the competitive circumstances of their local businesses. As part of the Community Oregon program, we examined the economies of Newport on June 22, Prineville July 25 and 26, and Burns August 15 and 16. We will hold meetings in Medford on September 27, Portland on October 8, Eugene
on October 10 and Bend, at a date to be announced, to assess
the challenges and opportunities of industry clusters within
the regions that surround these cities.
