Initiative Tracker -- Invest Differently In Post-Secondary Education To Ensure Access And Boost Oregon's Economy

Objective 3: Study and propose permanent new integrated models of post-secondary education budgeting and governance.

2004 Action Items

Accomplishments/Status

Ÿ The business community should support the Governor’s new Oregon University System Board as it undertakes a broad ranging review of post-secondary education policy and governance in the following ways:

Ÿ    Establishing a coalition of business leaders that actively follow the work of the new Board, and champions recommendations, when in agreement.

Ÿ    Providing loaned executive or consulting support where useful.

Ÿ    Establishing a set of recommendations for the 2005 Legislature and other key decision-makers for inclusion in the Oregon Business Plan.

While most action items have not yet been detailed, the Governor’s post-secondary initiative, announced in November 2003, will address post-secondary governance and budgeting.

For a full explanation of these recommendations, please read the original White Paper and Summit 2003 Discussion Paper for this initiative.
